LOVE Vinted. My aimless scroll of choice. My top sizing tip is to make sure you’ve always seen a picture of the sizing label rather than trust whatever the seller has it listed as. For reasons that are beyond me sellers often list things as being a different size because they feel it is actually bigger or smaller. Which is super unhelpful if you know what size you are in a particular brand! I just got sent a great dress from a brand I know and love but it is a full two sizes smaller than advertised because the seller thinks it “stretches”. I look like I’m wearing a body condom. Also sadly, I hit ‘everything is ok’ before trying it on - don’t do that! Vinted then cannot help and I was left negotiating a return with the seller (who to her credit was apologetic).

LOVE Vinted!! I often proudly realise my whole outfit has been procured from there 🤣🤣 However it is massively addictive and I’ve bought a few bits I didn’t really need but hey ho- only £4!! Thanks for the Google lens tip- game changer!

Just picked up my latest Vinted parcel.... a vintage St Michael 100% wool tartan Blazer that I paid £2.50 for!!! The listing said it's was in perfect condition 'just covered in dog hair' 😬. Once I hoover the coat intensively with the Henry, lint roll the hell out of it, bag it and take it the the dry cleaners and pay £18 and I'm cooking on gas baby! 😎 Vinted is my bet365 😂

Other people do this too?? Imagine a garment in a situation I will never in my life experience, and suddenly MUST find?

Though my recent obsession is scouring (ah hem) Tik Tok and then shopping Amazon for makeup dupes. Did you know e.l.f. Glow Reviver Lip Oil has a perfect dupe for Clinique Black Honey lip oil? That costs, like, $5?

Re the sizing dilemma- I tend to keep my searches to brands that I already have in my wardrobe- so that I am familiar with what size to look for.

I started using Vinted during lockdown and absolutely love it. I sold stuff mostly then and bought a few bits. When my son was born, I bought about 70% of his clothes from there which I found way more fun then trawling through the sad offerings on the high street.

It has made me think about sustainability and be more considerate with purchases.

I haven’t tried Vinted yet. Like you, I am concerned I will lose days on the app, the lure of a beautiful bargain can be too much to resist!

Every time you write a newsletter I think ‘my god she is so like me’ then I look at the photos of how utterly stunning you are and I have to retract that statement 🤣

But Vinted!! Yes you run the risk of a sizing and quality quagmire BUT I managed to get a very nice Zara coat for my daughter for school recently. There are definitely wins to be had!

Loved this article....this is the first time I've ever heard anyone voice the same feelings I have about shopping (the tunnel vision, the buying for a life you don't have). Thank you, I feel seen. Also, yep, big Vinted fan here ❤️

Buying for the life I don't have has got to be my number one most stupid quality.

Had to delete both Vinted & Vestiere from my phone. I lost weeks aimlessly scrolling. I find the photos both shocking & addictive.

I’m waiting for the fallout now eBay doesn’t have selling fees anymore. Vinted vs eBay ding ding Round 1

I’m close to deletion point and haven’t even been on them a week! Ha.

I love Vinted so much! I haven’t ventured into the designer section much but I am getting all my basics at a fraction of the cost and feel smug I’m not adding (directly) to fast fashion landfill.

My best tips have been search as specifically as possible when you want eg a black fitted T-shirt or a pair of flared jeans. Set condition to whatever you are happy to accept (I use new with tags/new without tags/very good only), set an upper price limit and set your brands, especially if you don’t want Shein etc to dominate your search results.

If you don’t want people to send you offers for every item that you click favourite on to look at later, you can change the settings so that they can’t see you have clicked favourite. But I quite like the offers, sometimes that does swing the deal for me.

I do find the search options/algorithm quite frustrating but these are good tips!

Yes & yes! The 'missing pieces' & shopping for my dream life in vintage & op shops (opportunity shops - we call em in Australia) + a little online. Vinted is not here so I'm spared your dilemmas in that 'shop', Ruth. You're a very amusing writer. :) Kitty

The issue with the four pound skirt is that by the time you’ve paid the fees and postage, it’s actually a ten pound skirt. And if, like me, you buy four x four pound skirts and none of them are quite right, you realise you could have spent 40 quid on a skirt that is just right and you can return if it’s not! I am, however, as addicted as you are and I have had to delete the app from my phone so it’s only on my iPad and therefore slightly less tempting.

Luckily it was right! And was £8 altogether. But can see bad things happening…

I have the same issue with imaging items that are too specific and would fit my wardrobe perfectly. Also, for imaging, I would use everything. I'm mostly doing home office, so I should only be buying comfortable loungewear.

I had some good experiences with Vinted. I like that it is cheaper and that it gives an item a second chance.

I just found the Houndstooth coat I tried on Allsaints last winter (I didn't buy it and regretted it) for 1/5 of the price. I think it's magical.
